Dealing w/ Fear (w/out Alcohol)

Alcohol consumption is completely normalized in our society. A friend of mine casually said yesterday, “Oh yah, alcoholism is totally gonna be on the rise during this pandemic.” And she’s right, it most likely is. In fact, the governor of my state (Colorado) deemed alcohol to be an essential item and liquor stores to be essential services.

While I’m thrilled for any business that gets to remain open during these unprecedented and scary times, I think it’s worth paying attention to that message and asking the question: Is alcohol essential and necessary in times of stress?

I don’t think it is. I know a lot of people will disagree with me, hell a few years back I would have disagreed with me. But I also know I’m not alone on an island with this idea.
